Diocesan Ecumenical Officers are appointed by the Bishop

  • to work with pastors and laity of parishes desiring to establish or enhance ecumenical ministries or programs;
  • to serve as liaison officers with officials of other Christian churches and ecclesial communities within the diocesan geographic area.

Activities

  • Prepare for diocese-wide ecumenical activities during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25), and at other times throughout the year in cooperation with other ecclesial Christian communities in Northeast Florida.
  • Our first event was an Ecumenical Vespers at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, presided over by Bishop Felipe Estevez and to which leaders of various leaders of Christian Churches in Northeast Florida are being invited,  Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Clergy of all Christian denominations are also invited to participate and may wear stoles if desired.
  • Our second event was an Ecumenical Evensong at the St. John’s Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida in Jacksonville, January 21, 2015.
  • Our 3rd event will be an Ecumenical Evening Prayer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 6801 Merrill Road, Jacksonville, Florida at 7:00 PM, Monday, January 21, 2016. Host and presider: Bishop Robert G. Schaefer, Florida-Bahamas Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. All are welcome to pray for Christian Unity and for suffering Christians everywhere. Contact Dr. Chau T. Phan for more details.
  • To assist pastors, upon their request, with the formation of Parish Ecumenical Representatives (PERs) or in promoting joint ecumenical activities with other Christian communities within the parish’s vicinity.
  • To provide information on and contact with speakers and trainers in ecumenical and interreligious formation.
